DENNIS HOLLAND
Letter from the Editor
I was born in Kansas City, MO on June 14th. In 1946 we moved to Seattle WA and in 1953 we moved to Whitefish Bay WI, a suburb of Milwaukee. I got my drivers license after learning in my Mom's 1953 Chevy Bel Air. Then in 1956 we moved to Lake Forest, IL .
My first car was given to me by my parents. It was a 1950 Chevy. It was not cool enough so I sold it and bought a 1951 Ford convertible, nosed, decked, lowered in rear with loud mufflers. In 1958 I graduated from high school.
During high school years, my best friend and I dated two girls and the four of us were out cruising most nights. The girl my friend was dating was Sue, who later became my wife.
Fall 1958 started college but was unmotivated. Dropped out in early 1959. March 1959 joined Air Force and served for approximately four years as photographer/photo technician, basically developing aerial roll film. Biggest event while serving was Cuban missile crisis. While in Air Force I had a 1954 Lincoln. Discharged December 1962 (early out for Christmas).
Traded cars with my dad. He took my 1954 Lincoln to drive back and forth to train station and he gave me his 1956 Oldsmobile 98 four door hardtop. January 1962 started winter semester at Lake Forest College. Graduated June 1966, honor roll every semester. Motivation a little different than first time.
August 1963 I married Sue. Sue had just bought a new Triumph TR3. 1966 I was hired by Proctor & Gamble. 1967 bought 1965 Corvette big block with 425hp. 1967 transferred by P&G to Cincinnati and lived in an apartment for several months. Then bought first house. Soon after we left the apartment a tornado ripped roof off.

In 1970 traded Corvette for 1969 Mustang Mach 1, with a 390 engine. Sue 1939's car was a 1966 Plymouth Barracuda. Didn't like working for P&G, too regimented. In January 1972 quit P&G and moved with my pregnant wife to Colorado. Initially, we rented a house in Kittredge, near Evergreen. Found a job as credit manager at Teledyne Water Pik in Fort Collins. Bought a house in Loveland and moved in March 1973.

Worked for Water Pik mostly as credit manager until 1990 when I transferred to International Sales and Marketing Dept. and was transferred to Germany. Lived outside of Weisbaden in a small village called Idstein-Worsdorf where we bought a house. Left Water Pik in 1994 and started own small marketing business called European Marketing Services. Soon found myself one customer. Sonicare was new then and needed help getting distribution in Europe. I found them distributors in most European countries and then serviced them with sales and marketing help.

1998 decided we had been out of the states long enough; told Sonicare we would not be renewing the contract. Retired June 1998 and sold house in December 1998. Moved back to Colorado. Moved into current house March 1999. Rejoined VMCCA March 1999. Pictures of my cars I took on VMCCA tours.
