SANDY CARLSON, Elected To Serve As The 1st Woman Regional Director of Mountains & Plains Region of VMCCA for 2025-2026.

Sandy Carlson writes:  Longtime friends are shocked to know that I am now the Regional Director for the Mountains & Plains region of VMCCA. A car club no less. You see 60 years ago I married a car guy/gear head, but a car gal I was not.

About the only thing I knew about cars was how to drive a standard shift and where to put in the gas. Transmissions, carburetors and other thingamajigs were beyond me.

I spent many “dates” handing tools to my Beloved and listening to “car talk” so a bit of knowledge seeped in. Not only was my husband a car guy but an antique car guy so a parade of oldies has graced our garages through the years.

Our first was a ‘40 Chevy pickup that we used for camping.  A ’51 Jeep pickup was our family car for a while.  Then there was a ’51 bullet nose Studebaker, a ’27 Auburn in a basket (also sold in a basket), various old farm trucks that included a narrow nose Kenworth.

Randy and I have the following cars:

DB0221E5-BE95-4742-958D-03F72DF845E6_1_201_a.jpeg

'26 Chrysler

'31 Studebaker

 '31 Chrysler Roadster

'50 Oldsmobile

I have really grown to admire these vintage vehicles.  The design and the engineering are impressive but, please, don’t ask me about their engines, transmissions, running gears, etc. I still don’t have a clue.

What I do know is how much I enjoy belonging to VMCCA. Whether it’s a local chapter, regional or national tour, driving our oldies and meeting people from all over the U.S. is so much fun. It’s the best way to see and learn about our country and to form great friendships with wonderful people.

I am a retired elementary school librarian. Since I just became Regional Director in September, I’m looking forward to channeling what was my passion for connecting children with books into working with VMCCA members in furthering the touring hobby.

Here's to many happy miles down the road in our unique and antique cars.
